Master Degree Psychology from California State University Chico

The work of the psychologist is a search for knowledge about human and animal behavior to enhance the human condition. The Department of Psychology at Chico offers course work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate major in psychology is a diverse forty-unit liberal arts program. The major includes the completion of three laboratory courses to ensure that students have direct experience with the content of psychology.

The master’s programs in psychology provide both a MA and a MS which contain different emphases. The MA in Psychology includes options in Psychological Science and Applied Psychology. The MA Option in Psychological Sciences provides course work for students planning to enter doctoral programs or to teach at community colleges. The MA Option in Applied Psychology includes course work in preparation for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential for school psychologist authorization. The MS in Psychology meets the course content requirements for California Marriage and Family Therapists licensure eligibility.

Food Nutrition from California State University Chico

The courses and programs in nutrition and food sciences have emerged from and are integrated with the physical and life sciences. The science of nutrition is concerned with the ingestion and utilization of food for the purposes of survival, prevention of disease, and the promotion of positive health. Courses for non-majors, as well as majors, are offered.

Pre-Professional Allied Health from California State University Chico

This concentration in the Department of Kinesiology allows students upon graduation to enter professional schools, which are often master’s degree programs. The requirements of schools offering programs in Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant, Chiropractic Medicine and Occupational Therapy vary considerably. It is best to contact schools that you are interested in applying to and checks with them regarding their entry requirements and pre-requisites. Consult with your advisor to develop a plan of course work based upon your career objectives and goals. Students are strongly encouraged to contact the schools they intend on applying to and obtain the current pre-requisites for admission as early as possible (preferably by the end of their sophomore year). Most schools require course work in chemistry, math, physics, English/literature/composition, human physiology, psychology, biology/zoology, statistics and social sciences.

Exercise Physiology Health Care from California State University Chico

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Physiology is intended to provide students with in-depth study of the physiological bases of human physical performance. In addition to the required courses in the major, many students who complete this option take additional courses in biology and chemistry especially if pursuing a Pre-Professional emphasis. Students in this option also may chose to complete the Certificate in Sport and Human Performance. Students who complete this option are qualified to sit for various professional certifications, such as those offered through the American College of Sports Medicine or the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Health Care from California State University Chico

The BS in Health Science provides students with a broad-based curriculum to pursue many career paths in the health field. Three options are available:

The Option in Gerontology prepares students to work with the aging population. The option is designed to play a part in meeting the health-related needs and challenges of the fastest growing segment of the American population: older adults. Gerontology professionals are needed in senior centers, health and social service agencies, assisted living communities, nutrition and recreation programs, adult day-care centers, and long-term care settings.
