Teacher Intern Program (TIP) Graduate Student Teaching Opportunity The Department of Psychology is committed to training psychology graduate students as college instructors. For over 35 years, the Department of Psychology has offered graduate students an opportunity to gain experience teaching over one academic school year through the Teacher Intern Program. Second year and Continuing Second year graduate students have the rare opportunity to teach Psychology 150 (as the instructor of record, not as a Teaching assistant) Teacher interns are closely supervised and monitored by the program faculty coordinator. During the first semester of teaching, teacher interns will be assigned one course. Appointments of two sections are occasionally offered, based on enrollment needs. Interns may teach no more than two sections per semester. To be considered into the program, applicants must be current graduates students in good standing in the Psychology Department Master’s program. Returning teacher interns must be graduate students in good standing who have satisfactorily fulfilled the responsibilities of their teaching appointments. Applications for the Teacher Intern Program are available early during the Spring semester for the following academic year.

The work of the psychologist is a search for knowledge about human and animal behavior to enhance the human condition. The Department of Psychology at Chico offers course work at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The undergraduate major in psychology is a diverse forty-unit liberal arts program. The major includes the completion of three laboratory courses to ensure that students have direct experience with the content of psychology.

The master’s programs in psychology provide both a MA and a MS which contain different emphases. The MA in Psychology includes options in Psychological Science and Applied Psychology. The MA Option in Psychological Sciences provides course work for students planning to enter doctoral programs or to teach at community colleges. The MA Option in Applied Psychology includes course work in preparation for the Pupil Personnel Services Credential for school psychologist authorization. The MS in Psychology meets the course content requirements for California Marriage and Family Therapists licensure eligibility.

We offer a challenging program that includes two quarters of experience in the state-of-the-art CSUB University Counselor Training Clinic and field traineeships, all of which provide counseling services to the Bakersfield community.

The Graduate School of Human Science has two master’s programs Clinical Psychology and Human Science. Students at this graduate school include those who have graduated from other universities, with academic emphasis placed on psychology, and those who have work experience at companies and other places in related fields. This graduate school provides students with chances to study specialized academic areas in a broad manner. After completing this school, students take jobs at various places such as schools and hospitals. They also enter the industrial community, with some of them becoming counselors, and others, clinical psychotherapists.

In the study of philosophy and the philosophical tradition students enter into a conversation with some of history’s greatest minds. This is, in itself, a tremendously enriching experience. But it pays the even greater dividend of helping us shape our views on such fundamental issues as love and friendship, art and science, justice and community, politics and religion, meaning itself.

The Management pathway first establishes a foundation of management and organisational theory and practice, and then proceeds to adopt a critical questioning approach, through exploring, analysing and evaluating key issues and challenges facing managers and organisations today. The links between theory and practice are critically examined, to help to develop strong working relationships, and so enhancing performance.

The aim of the Advertising pathway is to prepare you for a career in advertising, equipping you with the practical skills required to make an immediate impact and the conceptual framework to make a long-term difference.

The career positions available in this fast-growing, in-demand field include physicians’ offices, hospitals, hospice care, laboratories, ambulatory care centers, health insurance companies, etc. The Associate in Science Degree in Medical Assisting may be earned by successfully completing one of the two degree programs offered. Each program offers students the opportunity to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for a fulfilling career in this field.

Course requirements for each program are sequenced to begin with essential skills before moving on to the complex skill mastery demanded of medical assistants found in the laboratory, clinical, and administrative areas. Upon successful completion of course study, the student completes the program through a hands-on experience in the medical field (externship). It should be noted that individuals currently employed by medical facilities may qualify to register for the more advanced course offerings.

The dietitian’s professional role is to promote and provide optimal nutrition, health and well-being of every individual based on sound science and evidence-based practice. The dietitian’s unique education includes knowledge of food, human nutrition, management principles, the biological sciences, behavioral and social sciences, with a liberal arts foundation. Supervised practical experience, national registration certification and professional competency requirements equip the registered dietitian (RD) to provide food and nutrition services to the public through various employment environments such as community education and public health, foodservice management, healthcare and business and industry.
